Meet our March Employee Spotlight, Kelsea Flewellen! Kelsea has been a part of our employee-owned family for a little over a year and has been a huge asset to our engineering team at Elite Controls. Let us get to know her better:
What is your role? Briefly describe what you do.
“I am a Controls Engineer for Elite Controls. I work on all electrical design, schematics, and programming for control panels that we build in house.”
Who/what inspires you?
“ My boyfriend has been my inspiration. He has a degree in mechanical engineer but thought himself how to code during covid and moved into data scientist role within his same company. Seeing his drive to learn a new skill that led himself to a more fulfilling career inspires me to not settle for anything less.”
If you had to pick one strength you bring the to team, what would it be?
“I would say my willingness to do whatever needs to get done whenever it needs to get done is my biggest strength. Whether an engineer is out and something needs to get programmed or sales needs a quote processed, I’m always first person to jump on it. I am able to a go to person and don’t need to only stay within my job description.”
What do you like to do in your free time?
“ I enjoy getting to go camping and hiking. One of my favorite camping trips was in New Mexico, where we stayed in a canyon with natural hot springs hot tubs.”
If I could learn how to do one thing, what would it be?
“I would love to learn how to scuba dive and spear fish.”
Where were you born?
I was born in Lawton, Oklahoma where I spent most of my life. I moved to Houston, TX a year in a half ago.”
What’s the best thing about your job?
“One of the main reasons why I took this role is the idea of having my hands on the entire process. I didn’t want to be stuck in just a design role and only putting things on paper. In this role I get to do the design and programming but also get to see product getting built and check it before it gets shipped out.”
What’s been one of your proudest moments at EOHI?
“I was given a huge project right when started. We had a customer building a brand new mining truck from the ground up and I was tasked with designing all the electrical schematics that go into this truck. It was cool to be trusted with such a huge project right off the bat.”
How do you define success?
“I define success by enjoying what you do for a living and being proud of what you accomplish during your work day.”
Where is your favorite place that you’ve traveled?
“I Haven’t been out of the US, but one of my favorite places I traveled was Minnesota. I stayed in a cabin on the lake and got to experience 2ft of snow and take in the stunning scenery.
